What it catches

Eight categories of writing issues, every check

Beyond spellcheck. Beyond rules-based grammar. Contextual suggestions that understand register, audience, and intent.

🔤

Grammar

Subject-verb agreement, tense consistency, pronoun reference, modifier placement, parallelism.

🔡

Spelling

Misspellings + the homophones spellcheck misses: their/there, affect/effect, principal/principle.

Punctuation

Comma splices, missing serials, semicolon misuse, apostrophe placement, quote nesting.

Style

Wordiness, passive overuse, weak verbs, redundant adjectives, jargon density, throat-clearing.

The workflow

Polish your writing in three minutes

Best results when paired with the humanizer + AI detector — but the grammar check is also great as a standalone polish step.

1

Paste

Drop in your draft — essay, email, blog post, message. Up to 10K characters.

2

Review

Each suggestion shows the fix and a one-sentence explanation. Learn the rule, not just the patch.

3

Update your draft with the fixes that fit your voice. Skip the ones that don't.

4

Polish before professors do

Tuned for academic register. Recognizes when passive voice is right (scientific writing) vs. weak (narrative). APA, MLA, Chicago style preferences honored.

Slack, email, doc — same engine

Replace browser spellcheck for any writing that matters. Catches the "their/there" the boss notices, the wordiness HR copies into the handbook.

How our grammar checker works

Our grammar checker runs on a proprietary engine with a custom rule set tuned for English writing across academic, professional, and casual registers. Each suggestion explains why the change is recommended — not just what to change. That means you learn the underlying rule, not just patch the symptom.

Unlike pure rules-based checkers (Microsoft Word, browser spellcheck), ours catches contextual errors: word-choice problems, subtle subject-verb mismatches, redundant phrasing, awkward voice. Unlike pure AI checkers (Grammarly's premium tier), ours is free and doesn't require an account.

Why explanations matter

Most grammar tools flag mistakes without explaining them. You accept the suggestion, move on, and make the same mistake next week. Our checker writes one or two sentences for each suggestion explaining the rule — so you actually internalize the pattern.

Over time, this changes how you write. Users report fewer flagged issues per draft after 4-6 weeks of use, because they've learned the rules instead of just patching them. The check becomes a tightening pass, not a band-aid.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Yes. Free tier: 100 checks/month with no sign-up. Larger volumes (1,000-20,000 checks/month) require a paid plan starting at $7/mo.
Functionally similar for catching errors. Different in three ways: (1) free with no account, (2) faster — single API call vs. Grammarly's browser extension overhead, (3) explanations are written to teach the rule, not just suggest a fix.
Yes. Our checker is tuned for academic register — it understands when passive voice is appropriate (most scientific writing) vs. when it's weak (most narrative writing). Discipline-specific style guides (APA, MLA, Chicago) are honored when relevant.
Currently English only. Spanish, French, and German support is on the roadmap for late 2026.
No. We process your text in memory only — never stored, logged, or used for training. Each check is fully ephemeral.
Yes — see our API at /api. The /v1/grammar endpoint accepts the same payload and returns the same suggestions array.
